Stanley Cup Fever

A few weeks back it looked like we was going to be watching the Playoffs as mere neutrals, using it as an excuse to show Lucas some more hockey plays on the TV. However, thanks to a recent turnaround in form, he will now be sweapt up in Stanley Cup fever. The 'Wings are HOT and excitement is building.

Lucas has done little else new in his hockey, this is mainly due to Lo (his Mum) finding work and us having to adjust our lives a bit. He still gets regular practice on the rollerblades though and we hope to get back to the ice soon.

We met our friend Bobby recently and Lucas came away with lots of hockey gear, he was given an official Detroit Red Wings game puck, Red Wings T-Shirt, Red Wings poster and licence plate. He was made up to get all that, so thank you Bobby.

So there we have it, not the biggest update you'll get from me. So I will sign off with a new favourite of Lucas' "Penguins? Eugh that's nasty"

Looking Forward, Finances & Fun

On Wednesday 10th March 2010 Lucas was taken to Romford Ice Rink to see the kids training. It was his 1st time watching what is involved and I can confirm he is excited to get going.

So next on our agenda is ice time, getting up to speed on his skates on the ice so he can get into the 8 week course at Romford. Our main issue with all this will be cost. While the £45 for the course is within budget, the £350-£400 for all his equipment is way over what we can afford. The biggest shame is that he needs all this to be taken over to the Rascals. Having already sold off some consoles to fund his stick and skates, I am running out of things to sell to afford the rest.

However, he is my son and I made a promise I would do whatever I can to get him as far as he can. So over the next few weeks I will be looking to get hold of as much money as possible for him to get what he needs. He really cannot wait to get started and says it will be fun.

Skating Improvements Video

To backup the previous post, here is a short video of Lucas' practice today (Sunday 7th March 2010). His stability is getting better by the day and he is starting to glide more, rather than stumble around. Also his stick control on the skates is getting to a similar level to how it is when he is flat footed.

I wish he wouldn't get distracted every time I get the camera out though. Need to find a way to get footage without him noticing.

Skating improvements

The other day we had to go to the shops. Lucas decided that he wanted to wear his skates. After a few moments of struggling with the pavement he was happily skating with a fair bit of control.

This morning it seems to have paid off. He has put his skates on and has started skating around with a lot more pace. He is able to perform quick stops and sharp turns. When he is playing with the stick and puck he is a lot more improved too. This is likely down to not needing to concentrate on the skating side of things.

He still falls down, but now he is up quickly.

Only a quick update today.

Welcome

This blog will be used to chart the career of my son as he gets into playing hockey. We are fully supporting him as much as we can. He wants to play like the teams on the tele. By this he means in the NHL.

We are based in the UK, so if he does want to make it, he will have to make history and eclipse the greatest British born and trained player ever. Tony Hand.

Lucas was 1st inspired to get into hockey properly at the age of 3, when he was taken to see Manchester Phoenix take on Peterborough Phantoms at the Altrincham Ice Dome on 9th January 2010. He was given a puck by Phantoms player  Joe Miller (#19).

Since that day he has lost all interest in other sports and only wants to watch the Ice Hockey. This has got to the point where he cries if we put on kids TV, demanding instead he had the hockey on.

We recently moved from Liverpool to Southend, therefore his local team is now Romford Raiders. It was thanks to a trip to Rom Valley Way that he now owns his 1st pair of Easton Gloves and a Reebok Stick. He also has his 1st pair of Rollerblades and Ice Skates]. Next step is to get his confidence up on the ice so the Romford Rascals will allow him to start training.

So there you have it, a small introduction. Hopefully this blog will last for years and years and will end up being a part of history as Lucas' makes it all the way to the NHL.

His favourite player?
